Yorkville police arrest college student on aggravated battery, armed robbery charges – Shaw Local


Yorkville Police arrested a student at Yorkville Middle School, 920 Prairie Crossing Drive, on Wednesday, Feb. 9, on charges of aggravated assault and attempted robbery after police said the student threatened another student with a pair of scissors.

In a statement released with Yorkville School District 115, police said the suspect was arrested and transported to St. Charles Juvenile Justice Center.

Police said their school resource officer immediately launched an investigation with school administrators after being told of the incident at 11:20 a.m. by a member of staff.

Police said during the investigation they learned the alleged abuser threatened another student with scissors and demanded money from the student in a hallway bathroom.

No money was taken from the victim, according to the police.

Police described the incident as an “isolated event” and said at no time were other students or staff threatened or involved. No injuries were reported.

The statement concludes, “The safety of all students and staff is a priority of both the Yorkville School District and the Police Department. The school district would like to remind parents to review the parent-student handbook and discuss with their children the importance of not engaging in activities that endanger the health or safety of students and staff.
