West Geauga Middle School principal Ron Dahlhofer has been on “paid administrative leave” since July 11 due to an ongoing investigation into potential misconduct.

Dahlhofer was ordered to work remotely on a home assignment during this time, Superintendent Richard Markwardt said in a letter to Dahlhofer obtained through a public records request.

“During these hours, you must make yourself available to meet with the board or administration when needed,” he wrote. “If you are contacted by me during working hours, you must answer the call or respond promptly to the text or email.”

At an Aug. 8 school board meeting, the West Geauga Schools Board of Education passed a resolution appointing elementary school principal Lindsey Meagan Bellan as the middle school’s alternate principal effective Aug. 9 on a temporary basis according to needs.

While Dahlhofer is on home assignment, he is not permitted to discuss the ongoing investigation of potential misconduct with any district staff member, student, and/or district parent.

“You must continue to perform your duties as Principal of West Geauga Middle School from home through electronic communication and/or telephone. You must not be on school property during your home assignment unless I ask you to,” Markwardt said. “If you refuse to comply with these guidelines, your actions may be considered insubordination and could subject you to disciplinary action, up to and including the potential termination of your employment contract(s). “

Markwardt declined to comment further at this time due to the ongoing investigation.
