The playoff table is starting to clear up a bit after Friday night’s games as the season draws to a close and heads to the home stretch.
WACO went one step further to win 8-Man District 6, while Wapello and Mediapolis kept their playoff hopes alive with big rebound wins.
Fort Madison went undefeated with a 58-14 rout of Clinton, but the road gets much tougher with Iowa City Liberty, North Scott and Burlington still on the horizon for the Bloodhounds.
WACO remains perfect
The Warriors, ranked ninth in 8-Man, continue to do the job in all three phases of the game.
The Warriors downed Lone Tree, 55-22, at Wayland and Simeon Reichenbach rushed for 168 yards on 13 carries and scored two touchdowns, including one from 55 yards.
Isaac Oswald completed three passes for 83 yards and a score, including one from 61 yards for Drew Diers.
WACO’s defense limited the Lions to just 84 rushing yards.
Indians win decisive road victory
Wapello, after falling last week to Lisbon, ranked eighth in Class A, went to Highland and came away with an unmissable 34-21 victory over the Huskies.
The Indians built a big lead early on, then resisted a furious return attempt by the Huskes.
With Jake Gustison out with a shoulder injury, Macuen West and Caleb Ealey took charge of the game on the floor. West ran for 82 yards on 14 carries and scored two touchdowns, while Ealey ran for 72 yards on 11 carries.
Senior quarterback Tade Parsons completed 15 of 25 passes for 297 yards and three scores, while Maddox Griffin had nine catches for 217 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
That sets up a showdown next week against Alburnett with the district’s second place finish.
White Mediapolis Beavers
After two straight losses, the Bulldogs rebounded significantly with a 49-0 rout by Wilton at the Mediapolis Athletic Complex.
Kadin Salek had a huge game for the Bulldogs. He ran for 123 yards on just four carries, including a scoring 43-yard run. He also returned a 90-yard kickoff for a score and brought in a punt for 29 yards.
Anthony Isley gained 77 yards on 0 carries and scored a touchdown.
Mediapolis is traveling to play during the next week.
Chargers crush South Fulton
Illini West returned to the winning column with a 40-6 road win over South Fulton.
Ethan James ran for 178 yards on 20 carries and scored four touchdowns and had three passes for 45 yards and another score to lead the Chargers.
Quarterback Nick Manzo completed 11 of 19 passes for 140 yards and two touchdowns.
