Texarkana school district hosts meeting for new college principal

TEXARKANA, Ark. – The school district will be hosting a meet and greet event here from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Wednesday for the new principal of Arkansas Middle School, Kendrick Smith.

The event will take place at Arkansas Middle School, 5443 Jefferson Ave.

Smith, who was hired earlier this month, will replace Theresa Cowling, who has accepted a promotion to director of Magnet programs at the Texarkana Arkansas School District.

Smith received a Bachelor of Science in Health Education from Texas A&M University-College Station and a Masters of Education Administration from Texas A & University-Texarkana. With over 20 years of study, Smith’s educational background includes serving as a coach / teacher and vice-principal in the Pleasant Grove School District, and both vice-principal and principal at Liberty High School. -Eylau.

Smith was the principal LE High from July 2015 to January 2021.

“I believe it’s important for a principal to know and relate to their staff and students,” Smith said. “I can’t wait to get to know my staff and gain their trust. “

Smith said that during the relationship building process, he hopes to learn the strengths of individual staff and build on those strengths with appreciation and praise.
