Substitute Teacher Compensation Increase in Chula Vista Primary School District – NBC 7 San Diego

If you’ve ever thought about becoming a substitute teacher, now there are more incentives.

The need for substitute teachers is not a new problem. This dates back to before the pandemic. But if you look at the employment situation in stores and restaurants, trying to find people to hire, it’s the same in schools, the spokesperson for the Chula Vista Primary School District said, Anthony Millican.

“We are in desperate need of substitute teachers, as are many districts in the state of California,” Millican said. “This is a constant concern, not only to our district, but also to school districts across the state. “

To stay competitive, at an emergency school board meeting on Wednesday night, the board voted to increase the pay of substitute teachers.

For regular replacements who replace more in the short term, the salary has increased from $ 122 to $ 200 per day. For long-term replacements, who can replace for weeks or even months, the salary has increased from $ 180 to $ 283 per day. In a new position, site replacements who work daily at a specific site to fill in gaps as needed, the salary is $ 283 per day.

To be an ordinary everyday submarine, you don’t need to have a teaching degree, but you need a college degree. In this case, the person cannot replace the same teacher or the same class for more than 30 days during the school year.
