Shawnee middle school teacher charged with sex crimes

OLATHE, Kan. –A De Soto School District middle school teacher charged with sex crimes now faces multiple charges.

Keil E. Hileman, 53, was charged in Johnson County court Wednesday with six counts of unlawful sexual activity.

The charges stem from incidents that occurred from June 2017 to October 2022 and involved “caressing or touching a person 16 years of age or older.”

Hileman was a teacher at Monticello Trails Middle School in Shawnee.

The school district said it became aware of the allegations against Hileman on Oct. 6 and moved quickly to remove him from the classroom and school campus and placed him on leave pending an administrative investigation.

Hileman will not return to school, according to the district. The district school board will take action regarding his employment at a future meeting. He started working for the district in 1994.

“Nothing matters more to our district than creating a safe and caring learning experience for every student, every day,” the district said in a statement late Wednesday.

A cash bond of $250,000 has been set for Hileman.

No hearing date has been set at this time.
