PRC School District Bond Projects Nearing Completion – Picayune Item

Current construction projects in the Pearl River County School District are nearing completion, with most work still to be completed on the new auditorium at Carriere Campus.

At Thursday’s board meeting, district chief financial officer TJ Burleson said crews were still tweaking the interior of the auditorium, such as the drywall and sprinkler system. The seats and curtain for the stage are being ordered so that they will be on hand when installation can take place.

After board member Jerry Frazier asked why there was a hole in the side of the building facing Highway 11, Burleson said it was only temporary to allow more large equipment to enter the building, such as a scissor lift. Once this access is no longer needed, this part of the building will be sealed off.

The installation of the curtain and the seats should take place in June. The process of moving classrooms into the building will begin even before the entire auditorium is complete, so renovations to other classrooms in older parts of campus can take place. .

The façade works for the cafeteria and the multi-purpose building are now complete and quotes are being sought to carry out similar works at the entrance to the school.

Concrete work at the baseball and softball fields is now complete and new nets have been installed on the fields. Burleson said the only thing missing was the stadium seats ordered to ensure the seats met ADA regulations. He informed Council that a delivery date for the seats is not currently available.

Exterior painting of the high school basketball gymnasium is also complete, and installation of ionization equipment on all campus HVAC systems is also underway. Burleson said the ionization equipment will ensure the air in all classrooms is sanitized and the system also has the ability to help keep surfaces sanitized.

The playground equipment for the elementary campus ordered in November or December of last year has not yet arrived. Burleson said the equipment was due to arrive last month, but has since been delayed until March. When it arrives, installation should only take a few weeks.
