NORTHERN VIRGINIA (WDVM) – On Wednesday, four boys’ and four girls’ lacrosse teams all battled for a spot in Friday’s Region 6D final and, more importantly, battled for a spot in the quarterfinals of state next week.
Langley vs. Madison at Oakton HS (women’s lacrosse)
These two always seem to meet in the playoffs, no matter the sport. Madison, the Concorde District champion, took an early lead before the Saxons came back to take a 6-5 lead before halftime.
In the second half, Langley increased his lead and never looked back. The Saxons beat the Warhawks 15-8 and are heading to the regional final on Friday.
Oakton at Yorktown (girls’ lacrosse)
Yorktown, champions of the Liberty District, topped the area charts. The Patriots were able to take a 6-2 lead over the Cougars. A fierce battle by Oakton but to no avail as Yorktown won 13-8 and will host the Region 6D final on Friday against Langley.
Centerville at Yorktown (Boys Lacrosse)
Just like the girls, the Patriot boys also took care of business. Centerville gave them quite a fight, though. In the end, Yorktown emerged 12-9 winners and will host the Region 6D final on Friday.
Langley vs. Madison at Oakton HS (Boys’ Lacrosse)
The boys at Warhawk managed to save him from being completely swept away by Langley tonight. Madison led 6-4 at halftime, but really opened the scoring in the second half, scoring ten goals. The Warhawks held off Langley 16-8 and advanced to the regional final against Yorktown on Friday.
