The name of McKinney ISD’s 22nd Elementary School, which will be in the Trinity Falls neighborhood of McKinney, was announced at the May 17 board meeting.

Ruth and Harold Frazier Elementary School was recommended by the School Name Selection Committee and approved by the trustees.

“I remember when I moved here, we had eight elementary schools,” said council chair Amy Dankel.

The Fraziers’ story is “incredible” and there are still people living in the community who know about the Fraziers, the council commented after the announcement.

The MISD Board of Directors approved the design and likely cost of the district’s new elementary school at a September 28 meeting. The project is expected to be completed in June 2023, in time for students to attend during the 2023-2024 school year.

The likely cost of the project is about $35 million, which includes construction, furniture, permits and other expenses, documents from the Sept. 28 meeting showed. This is based on a 60% drawing, which does not include the costs of plumbing, electricity, and other building necessities. A guaranteed cost will be presented to the board once a 100% draw is complete.

The proposed site plan is for a one-storey building on 12 acres bordered to the south by a future municipal park.

The school’s main entrance will face Sweetwater Cove. Lady Bird Drive borders the north side of campus and Backwater Bay Drive to the east.

The school is part of the $245 million capital improvement bond that voters approved in May.
