Leon County Fairview Middle School mourns the death of a campus teacher

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – The Leon County School District mourns the loss of a Fairview Elementary School teacher who died on campus Monday.

On his official Facebook, the school confirmed the death was due to a medical emergency. A spokesperson for the Leon County Sheriff’s Office said they were called to the Zillah Street campus in response to a natural death. The Tallahassee Online Police (TOPS) statistics map, which monitors service calls, showed the call arrived at around 2:25 p.m., more than an hour before leaving school.

The teacher has not been publicly identified.

“We are in communication with the teacher’s family. I hope you understand that out of respect for the family we will not be releasing any further information at this time, ”Manager Rusty Edwards said in a statement.

Edwards said grief counselors would be available to provide support and advice. LCS provided the advisers on Monday. Big Bend Hospice, Inc. will provide services Tuesday afternoon from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., he added.

WCTV contacted an LCS spokesperson but did not immediately receive a response.
