Amid the wail of sirens and the loud sounds of a handgun firing chalk bullets, members of the Killeen Independent School District Police Department marched to Classroom 123 at Bellaire Elementary School in tight formation to relieve seven students held hostage by a school gunman.

When officers came through the door, they quickly fired on the shooter and called for reinforcements – and the scene was over.
