For memory : If you want to see a sectional tournament with lots of local faces, South is the place for you this weekend. Of the nine teams here, five are from the News-Herald area. Highland is the top seed in the district, so they will be the favorites here. But 10th-seeded Mentor and 13th-seeded Mayfield should also get fair representation in the Hoover District. … Mentor has a back state qualifier in Antonio Shelley (34-8 at 132). Nick Blackburn (40-3 at 126) leads the team in wins. Others to watch include Becan Hahn (36-9 at 106), Jack DeBoe (27-5 at 113), Diego Stropko (32-8 at 120) and Brixton Bright (20-3 at 165). … Mayfield has struggled with a brutal schedule all year, which should pay off this week. Vinnie D’Alessandro (42-2) is ranked third in the state at 126. Greg Siambo (35-10) has been a hammer all year at 157. Sal Palmisano (36-9 at 120) and Carlo Santoro ( 32-12 at 113) gives the Wildcats four wrestlers with 30+ wins to date. … Madison is young and talented, especially at the lower weights. Nate Montgomery (29-4 at 106), Jamie Harrison (30-7 at 113) and Charlie Wade (29-10 at 126) are three of the best young lightweights in the area. … A pair of WRC champions in South (Teddy Griffin is 27-12 at 132 and Nick Hollerbach is 32-3 at 165) are leading the Rebels charge. Brush heavyweight Maliek Williams narrowly missed a state nomination last year and should be motivated this weekend. London Settles were injured in the districts last year and defaulted. He too should have motivation this weekend.
