Crofton Elementary School will be closed on Wednesday May 11 due to emergency repairs to a nearby electrical substation.
A statement from the Christian County School System says Kentucky Utilities will shut down the substation Wednesday morning at 8 a.m., with the outage expected to last about three hours.
Superintendent Chris Bentzel said due to the disruption, the decision was made to cancel classes at Crofton Elementary. He said the district will apply for an emergency day waiver with the Kentucky Department of Education to prevent the missed school day from being added to students’ school calendars.
He added that KSA testing will resume on Thursday when students and staff return to the building. Crofton Elementary staff will report for work Wednesday morning at Christian County Middle School. Bentzel said the workday at an offsite location will allow staff to fulfill their contractual obligation for this school year without adding an additional workday to the school calendar.
