The Corsicana Independent School District recently announced that science teacher Robert Schnabel, died Sunday afternoon from complications related to COVID-19.
The district said that due to his illness, Schnabel was not present for professional development and did not show up for classes in the 2021-2022 school year.
A family member informed the district on Sunday of his death and issued the following statement:
“Counselors have been available to support his colleagues and students at Corsicana College where Mr. Schnabel has taught primarily pre-PA sciences for the past seven years. Support will be provided to staff and students for as long as needed. We are deeply saddened by the loss of Mr. Schnabel who was a gentleman in all respects.
“He was loved by our student body and was known to dress for success every day, sporting his tailored suits and his signature smile. He immersed himself in the college drone program, working nights and weekends to engage students more and challenge their thinking scientifically. He also sponsored the chess club, teaching students all of the successful strategies that the game involves.
“Please keep the Schnabel family and our students and CMS staff in your thoughts and prayers during this time of mourning and loss. Although Mr. Schnabel can never be replaced, we will work diligently with the CMS administration to ensure that his lessons are covered by a certified and caring teacher for the remainder of the school year. Mr. Schnabel will be sorely missed.
