TINLEY PARK, IL – Burlington’s last location at Tinley Park has cut its ribbon and officially opened on Friday. The company moved to the corner of the newly renovated Tinley Park Plaza and donated $ 5,000 to an elementary school in Tinley Park to celebrate.
Store manager John Smeltzer presented the giant check on Friday, made payable to Fulton Elementary School in Community Consolidated School District 146. The school is located at 6601 W. 171st St., Tinley Park.
Smeltzer explained to Patch the purpose of the donation, made through Burlington’s long-standing partnership with AdoptAClassroom.org – a national, technology-based nonprofit that connects donors and sponsors with teachers and Kindergarten to Grade 12 schools to help equip more classrooms and students with school supplies. – is to help provide teachers and schools with everything they need most.
“Teachers often have to spend money out of their own pockets, so this gives us the opportunity to give back to the communities we are in and help them continue to educate and do what they are supposed to do without causing damage. difficulties for themselves, ”said Smeltzer. “A lot of teachers are really committed to their programs and their students, so that’s what the program is for, and we’re glad we were able to help. “
Fulton Elementary principal Megan Mitera was present at the dedication ceremony, accepting the large check on behalf of the school. Mitera told Patch the donation would reach a combined total of around 400 staff and students.
“We are really, really grateful,” Mitera said. “We’re looking at some of the STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and math) ideas, emotional social ideas, and maybe indoor playtime ideas when teachers can go shopping.”
Mitera said the school had been in contact with the business and Adopt a Classroom for about a month prior to opening, adding that they were “great to work with.”
“Again, we’re just super grateful,” Mitera said. “It’s going to affect a lot of children and teachers – just to improve and give us more resources in school. “
Burlington is officially open starting Friday. The new location has around 65 associates and is still hiring. On Saturdays, customers will receive a free Burlington Umbrella onsite, while supplies last, no purchase necessary.
