Bardstown Middle School SBDM hires Matthew Bartley as new principal

Tuesday 30 November 2021, – Matthew Bartley has been chosen as the next principal of Bardstown Middle School. The school’s site-based decision-making board voted unanimously to hire Bartley as principal during its special meeting on November 29, 2021 at the Bardstown Middle School Media Center.


“Sir. Bartley has grown as a leader at BMS and throughout the District in many ways over the years,” said Dr Ryan Clark, Director of Schools for the Town of Bardstown. “He has proven his commitment to serve our students and families and I have no doubts that he will be an outstanding director for BMS.

Bartley, a former student of the Bardstown Town School, is currently in his first year as Deputy Principal of Bardstown Middle School. He brings over 10 years of teaching experience to his new role as Director of BMS. For the past eight years, Bartley has taught math and science at Bardstown Middle School. Prior to his post at Bardstown, Bartley taught seventh grade mathematics for two years at Hebron Middle School in Bullitt County.

During his tenure at Bardstown Middle School, he held various leadership positions. For four years, he served as the teachers’ representative on the site-based Decision-Making Council as well as the school leadership team. In addition, he has contributed to numerous district initiatives by serving on school safety, strategic planning, budget, professional development and culture committees.

“It is an honor to accept the position of principal of Bardstown Middle School and I am honored to follow in the footsteps of a long line of great leaders at this school,” he said. “Reassured by the support of our wonderful faculty, students and families, and district leaders, I am confident that we will continue to do great things at BMS in Bardstown’s tradition of excellence. “

Bartley holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Louisville, a Master of Arts in Education from the University of Louisville, and an Education Specialist Diploma in School Administration from the University of Asbury.

Bartley replaces BMS Director Melissa Taylor, who is retiring after serving as BMS Director for four years. He will take up his duties as director on January 1, 2022.
