18-year-old charged after Henderson County high school student burns in workshop classroom | News


The Henderson Police Department said an 18-year-old was arrested Wednesday after being charged with burning a 15-year-old during a shop class at Henderson County High School.

HPD says Brandon Dean, 18, of Henderson, was arrested and charged with assault after an incident Wednesday during a shop class.

According to HPD, Dean and an unnamed 15-year-old were both taking a workshop class at Henderson County High School on Wednesday when Dean heated up a piece of metal and asked the 15-year-old to hold it. without them knowing that it had been reheated.

Police say the 15-year-old suffered burns to his hand.

Henderson County Schools District officials released the following statement to 44News following Dean’s arrest:

Dean was incarcerated in the Henderson County Jail on a 2nd degree assault charge. Booking records show he is being held without bond.

Police say the 15-year-old was treated by the school nurse and released.

No further information has been released at this time.
